Your tires do more than help you get from Point A to Point B. They also keep your car safe, providing traction and grip as your car makes contact with the road. In the course of duty, your tires take on some wear and tear, and eventually they’ll need to be replaced. Failure to replace your tires in a timely manner may increase your odds of accident or injury.

How do you know when your tires have almost reached the end of their lifespan? There are a few warning signs and red flags that let you know it’s about time for a tire replacement. Keep an eye out for each of the following, and schedule an appointment in our service center if you have questions or concerns.

Is it Time for New Tires?

Your tires have gone bald

The most obvious sign that you need new tires is that your current ones are out of tread. Tread is necessary for your tires to brake, corner, and drive safely. If your tires have worn out all their tread, it’s well past time to get some new ones. A warning light may alert you to this, but not always.

Your car shakes when you drive it

It’s perfectly natural for your vehicle to get the shakes every now and again, especially if you’re driving over an uneven or poorly maintained stretch of road. If it’s shaking constantly, though, that points to bad tires.

You’ve been driving on a spare tire

It’s smart to have a spare tire you can pop on should one of your regular tires go flat. However, spare tires are meant strictly as temporary solutions. If you’ve been driving on one for more than a few days, it’s time to invest in a more permanent replacement.

Your tires show uneven wear

If your tires have uneven levels of wear, that probably means they have not been kept at the manufacturer-recommended psi level. Check your tires monthly, and make sure you are keeping them inflated to the levels specified in the owner’s manual.
